Monday Evening Seminars

The MSTP hosts a seminar series every Monday evening during the academic year. The seminar takes place in the first floor conference room of the Biomedical Sciences Research Building (BSRB), with dinner served at 5 pm and seminars beginning at 5:30. Attendance at the Monday evening seminar is required of all first and second year MSTP students; students in later years are welcome to attend. The seminar series consists of three components. Approximately three times a month, a faculty member is invited to present his or her research to the group. The purpose of the faculty seminars is to introduce students to a range of research opportunities on campus. Once a month, two students (usually in PhD 3 year) give short (30 min) presentations of their thesis research. The student seminars allow students and program directors to learn about the research activities and accomplishments of MSTP students during the PhD phase of their training. Finally, the MSTP sponsors three to four “career” sessions each year, focusing on issues of particular concern to MSTP students and physician scientists. Examples include: Balancing Family Life with Clinical and Research Careers, The Spectrum of Academic Positions for Physician-Scientists, Research-Track Residency Programs, and Returning to the Third Year of Medical School.
