Student Life

Housing

The majority of incoming medical students choose to live in the graduate student housing at Weyburn Terrace. These apartments are shared with other medical or graduate students and are a 10-15 minute walk from the medical school.  For interested students, housing at Weyburn Terrace is available for the first two years of the program. Married student housing is accessible outside Westwood.  Many students choose to live in apartments that are not affiliated with UCLA, often in Westwood, Brentwood, West L.A., Santa Monica, Culver City, and Palms. Culver City and Santa Monica transit systems provide transportation between these areas and UCLA, and bus fares are partially subsidized by the university.

Sports and Recreation

The opportunities for exercise and recreation at UCLA are diverse, ranging from yoga and intramural softball to sailing lessons and break-dancing classes.  The campus has a number of facilities open to its students; for more info, see the UCLA Sports and Recreation site. Students also find time to visit the many beaches in the area, each with its own local flavor, and to explore the various landscapes of Southern California through the many nearby hiking trails

Arts and Culture

The sprawling city of Los Angeles is home to a number of areas of cultural interest.  Although best known for its movie industry, the city is proud of its musical and artistic offerings, which students can experience at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, the Getty Center, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and many others.
